Teachers make mistakes too

Today Steven came home from school and told me that he had a 66% for his final grade in Technology. I was stunned because this is a class that he loves and does very well in. I asked him why and he said that his teacher said that he had gotten a zero on his "air racer paper". They had to make these air racers and then they raced them in the hallway at school, but they also had a 4 page worksheet to do with it. Steven has always saved his school papers for much too long because he likes to burn stuff at the end of the year. In this case it turned out to be a good thing because he went upstairs when he came home and looked for it in his room. He found the paper with a grade of 100% written on it. The teacher actually gave him a grade of 100% and then forgot to mark it in the grade book, and gave the paper back to him, instead giving him a zero for never handing it in. I sent the teacher an email and Steven will give him the paper tomorrow. His actual grade should be in the upper 90's.
This is keeping it real...this kind of thing makes me crazy!

Wow, good thing he still had the paper. Good job Steve!

I guess the boys saving their papers for burning is useful for more than just the end of the year excitement it brings!

Oh, that is a great one for saving paper, not to mention the delayed gratification of a pyromanial closure. Good job indeed!

The teacher just sent me an email. He has corrected the grade. He says Steven has a 95 average. I keep thinking, if Steven never questioned the teacher about that grade (he's just really beginning to stick up for himself when it comes to school stuff), then he would be stuck with a final grade of 66%. This is a great lesson for him.

I'm annoyed with the teacher for this ridiculous mistake. I don't understand how a teacher could just simply accept that this paper was supposedly never handed in from one of his best students. Why wouldn't he have asked him about it? If Steven really hadn't handed it in, the teacher could have at least talked to Steve about it and given a chance to get a reduced grade for getting it in late. Instead he just gets a zero with no questions asked?!!!!?

Priscilla- Yup! I was annoyed too, but the teacher did apologize so I guess I must forgive him and hope he learned something from this too.
