Big Wheels and Banana Seats
Last night Michael was writing something about fads for a school paper. We ended up on the computer looking at fads of the 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's. I couldn't believe my ears when Michael asked me what a Big Wheel was. I know they're still around, but obviously not like when we were kids, when I think just about every kid had one.
He also had never heard of banana seats. That one I can understand a little bit better, but when I was a kid they were quite popular. They were nice because they were much easier to ride double with a friend. I find it quite amusing that things I was so used to being around and popular, were so strange and new to my teenage son. Did I grow up in the "Olden Days"? :)

Yeah. It is amusing what they come up with. I keep telling them that they will get their turn when their own kids look at i-pods and wii sets as strange relics from the past.
How about a game of Pong?
I blogged about banana seat bikes a couple years ago. Sure do wish I had my old one now. I think the kids would love them! http://justseven.blogspot.com/2006/06/i-want-to-ride-my-bicycle.html
I wanted a Big Wheel... Mom said no.
Michael knew what Pong was because he played a game with Dave once. It's in one of our video games, but strange to think that's all there was once.

This guy built a trike (the motorcycle kind) that looks like a big wheel.
I had a banana seat too. Loved it!
My cousin had a big wheel and we would drive up and down the driveway on that thing. We loved it!
I loved my purple banana seat bike too. It was so much more comfortable than the 10 speed one I upgraded to. I loved the olden days!
Does make you feel old, right ? ;-)
He didn't know what a Big Wheel was?? Grandma had one at her house when I was about 8 or 9 and all the kids rode it! And that wasn't THAT long ago.
Grandma had one? I don't remember that. We always wanted one, but she said no. If you were only 8 or 9 then Michael wouldn't remember it, he was born when you were 10.
I thought Grandma had a Big Wheel. The bad thing about them is when a kid is riding one he can't hear a thing other than the sound of the wheels on the pavement.
I asked Steven if he remembers her having a big wheel and he said no, so I showed him the picture so he could see what one looks like and he said he didn't remember her having one. I guess it was before their time.
I loved my Schwinn banana seat bike! I pretended that I was driving a bus!
