Cleaning the basement

Yesterday I decided to venture into the basement to search for my Madela breast pump for Bethany. Can you believe that we've been in our house for 4 years now and still have a few unpacked boxes in the basement?! In the process of looking for the pump I cleaned out some of the boxes. I did find some old diary's from when I was 14 yrs old. I read some parts to Michael and gave him some good laughs, then I ripped them up and threw them away (mostly...way too embarrassing!) I also found some old pictures that were fun to look at! Lots of junk... I don't know why we save so much junk, but it felt great to get rid of it! The messy section is just a small corner of the basement that has doors we can close on it. The rest of the basement has pretty much been finished,( aside from the ceiling) and it looks pretty neat and clean. Unfortunately I still haven't located the pump, but I am getting something accomplished in the process of searching for it.

It will probably be in the last place you would look...

It does feel good to get things cleaned out, doesn't it?

Cleaning out does feel good - but how could you rip up your old journal???? Oh my! Hide it away maybe, but rip it up????

Shelly- If you read the rediculousness in my old journal you would totally understand why I ripped it up. I don't remember being boy crazy, but there was a time when I got lots of attention and I ate it right up and wrote stupid stuff. Some of it was kind of funny, but most is just plain embarrassing!

I was wondering how you could rip it up too. I'd definitely hide it away, mine are all hidden, but I don't think I could bring myself to rip them all up. Luckily you've already read them to you boys so they can tell us the stories.

Martha- I ripped up most of them, but some of it remains....hopefully most of the silly stuff is gone. Believe me Martha, you wouldn't have wanted to save it either. Every day I was talking about a different boy in it, it was crazy! Mom probably would've had a stroke if she knew how crazy I was. There were parts of it where I talked about Jim and Dave and how cute they were. You were trying to get Jimmy to say "goose" one day and he kept saying, "gook". I also talked about how cute Dave was when he was born, but I commented that he had ugly feet. ??

This is funny. I did the same thing a few weeks ago and found a shoe box of golf balls (I don't golf) and a Friends calendar from about 1996. I have boxes full of notes from Jr. High at my dad's house. Maybe some day I'll get to reading them. I think I'll think the same thing you do about your journals.

I have kept my journals. I think they are a riot to read now! In fact, a couple of years ago I had to do a devotional for a bunch of women. I didn't know what to do. I found my old journals and the Lord showed me some very funny things to read out loud to the women and a scripture and a point to make. They all enjoyed it and it got lots of laughs!

I still have 2 complete ones from when I was 16-18 yrs old. The worst ones were from when I was about 14 and 15. I will say, I sounded very confused and even wrote that on one of the covers.

Been there, done that....
you want to unpack and clean up and end up sitting there looking at old photos and letters etc.
But that is fun, too!!
I hope you will slowly make progress. May I suggest, you do it on a rainy day? The weather is really too nice right now to be stuck in a basement!!

I'll have to agree with Gudl... if it ever rains.

well if I may be bold.....rachel does not have any girls to share the "boy crazy" moments with....;).
on the other hand.... the women in study is a fun idea.
I do think a rainy day would be good though... take as much sun as you can.

Hey, you cleaned your basement and I cleaned mine! We must have great minds that think alike...

I don't blame you for throwing away the ones from a silly time in your life. Sometimes we just don't like to remember ALL of the details of our teen years.

I never wrote a thing down when I was a teenager. No evidence was the plan!

I think I started a few lame diaries in my teens, but I never kept at it for long. They are long gone.

nice work on the basement.
