Koty's entertainment

Koty is pleased as punch just to sit and watch Dave cut every segment of his grapefruit with a knife and then eat it. When Dave was finished he tried squirting Koty with the peel, which made Koty feel very playful. He ran around the room like a crazy dog!

I heard that, gmj! That must be my good side, or maybe I just look cute when I'm stuffing my face. ;o)

Hey, can anyone tell me what "pleased as punch" means? That just doesn't make any sense to me. Punch doesn't have the mental capacity to be pleased, or angry, or feel any emotion at all. I can at least imagine a clam being "happy", but punch being "pleased"? Rachel says that it is a common phrase, but I don't buy it. I've lived 39 years and this is the first time I've heard it. I think her mom made it up or something. ;o) Can someone back me on this one?

"Pleased as Punch" as I suspected comes from the puppet show Punch and Judy where the nasty Punch was always pleased with his evil deeds. Personally I would rather think of the phrase to mean "pleasing as punch". At least that makes sense.

Nobody under the age of 40 should be able to use that phrase. ;)
